Great Cumbrae Moorings

There are 30 moorings located at Millport, plus 1 marker buoy.

We warmly welcome all visitors to use the moorings at Arran and Cumbrae, but would ask you to note the following:

  • The moorings are to be used for visiting the islands, and not for long term berthing or resident boats.
  • Boats must weigh no more than 15 tonnes.
  • The moorings are blue hippo type buoys.
  • The moorings are used on a first come, first served basis and cannot be booked ahead.
  • The moorings are lifted after the October school holidays, serviced and maintained over winter and re-laid before the Easter school holidays annually. This is weather dependent.
  • The decision as to whether a particular mooring is suitable for a vessel of a certain size and weight, in different weather conditions, is for the owner/skipper of the vessel to judge.
  • All users of the visitors’ moorings do so entirely at their own risk.
  • By securing a boat to a mooring the owner/skipper warrants to North Ayrshire Council that their vessel carried 3rd party liability insurance cover for any claims arising out of their use.
  • At Lochranza the Catacol & Lochranza Sea Society who run the pontoon facility are on site to help boat users and help with the disabled hoist (01770 830 247).
  • For enquiries relating to moorings please contact North Ayrshire Council, Cumbrae Community Development Company or VisitArran.

Honesty Boxes

The moorings around the Isle of Arran are run by volunteers from the relevant Arran Village Committees and at Millport by the Cumbrae Community Development Group. We would appreciate a donation to go towards the moorings maintenance - £5 for a day visit and £10 for an overnight stay. You’ll find Honesty Boxes ashore for cash donations.

Thank you for your support which is much appreciated.

Safety

Please ensure you understand how to pick up a mooring safely before you set off. We would encourage you to visit www.rya.org.uk/cruising/handling-sail/Pages/boathandling.aspx.

Environment

We encourage all sailors visiting North Ayrshire to do what they can to protect the environment. For information on how to operate your boat in an environmentally friendly manner, please visit www.thegreenblue.org.uk.
